About Us

Welcome to blue joy theatre company (BJTC)—a bold new voice in the vibrant arts scene of Boorloo (Perth), Western Australia. We are a contemporary theatre company passionate about developing and staging diverse stories, bold ideas, and dynamic performances that reflect the world we live in and imagine the worlds we wish to build. Our work is collaborative, community-driven, and unapologetically creative.

Founded in 2025, BJTC was born out of a desire to create space for underrepresented voices, foster cultural exchange, and challenge conventional narratives in both traditional and experimental theatre spaces. We’re here to spotlight stories that matter—stories that are daring, personal, political, and poetic.

We’ve been deep in creative development since late 2024, and we’re thrilled to announce that something special is coming your way in 2025. This marks the beginning of a journey—one that we hope you’ll walk with us. Whether you’re a fellow artist, a curious audience member, or a future collaborator, we invite you to stay connected, stay curious, and join us in building a vibrant, inclusive creative community.

Acknowledging Country

blue joy theatre company was created and continues to operate on stolen land. We acknowledge the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation, the traditional custodians of the land on which we live, create, and perform. We pay our deepest respects to Elders past and present, and to the ongoing strength, resistance, and creativity of First Nations communities.

We recognise that sovereignty was never ceded. This always was, and always will be, Aboriginal land. As a company committed to diverse storytelling, we understand that meaningful representation and cultural respect begin with truth-telling and accountability.
